The feast day of a parish patron saint is an opportunity to reflect a bit about
how the holiness of our patron is lived in our life as a parish. During his pontificate,
St. Pius X tried to remind the church of who she is, to invite the church to celebrate
more deeply her great gifts and to defend the church from what he thought would cause her harm. His motto, “To restore all things in Christ”, hung for many years
over our altar and now hangs over the main entrance to the church. That motto comes
from St. Paul and continues, “So that Christ may be all in all.” In many ways, that
sums up all of the work that we undertake as the Parish of St. Pius X. Our educational
and catechetical ministries at our school and R.E. program seeks to build a foundation
that will allow our students to see the world as filled with the goodness and the
presence of God, their learning reminds us that this is precisely who we are as
Church. Our liturgical celebrations exult in the greatest gift God has given us,
Jesus, who offers us his life in the Eucharist. Our social ministries move us outside
of ourselves to be a people who restore not just our parish community but also the
whole world, in Christ. May this opportunity to pray, celebrate and work together
as one parish, unite us more deeply to continue this great mission as St. Pius X
Parish. Happy Feast Day.
